Identification
The species grows to 43 cm in length for a weight of 371 g. Black face and bill, dark blue-black wings and tail. Subspecies with dark brown-grey nape, sides of head and breast with slightly lighter coloration on nape.

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in India and Sri Lanka. It has been introduced in Malaysia and Singapore. Species found from Iran to Myanmar. Lives in wide variety of habitats often in association with humans, to 4240 m.

Status : The species has a large range and has been introduced successfully in many countries. It is even considered as a pest and invasive species.
