Identification
The species grows to 37 cm for a weight of 68 g. Plumage dark slaty grey with strong purple-violet tinge on wings, back and thighs, less on head. Breast with vinous purple to pink wash. Iridescent green nape. Red bill with purple cere.
Range and habitat
The species is endemic to the Canary Islands in Spain and occurs on Tenerife, El Hierro, La Palma and La Gomera islands. Lives in mountain areas, in dense laurel forests and plantations, to 1500 m.
