Identification
The species can grow to 60 cm in length. High profile and prominent hump on forehead. Body coloration dark olive brown with short vertical clear band on belly. Dark fins with blue edge and tinge. Orange tinge near mouth and gill coverts.
Range and habitat
This species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and east Africa to Phoenix islands, north to south Japan, south to Australia. Lives in coastal reefs and lagoons, over silty bottoms, often near caves, to 60 m.

Status : The species has a large range and is globally uncommon. It is caught by fisheries, mostly incidentally and is believed to face no threats at this time.
