Identification
The species grows to 1 m for a weight of 13,2 kg. Forehead slightly humped. Dorsal and anal fins with elongated filaments when juvenile. Coloration yellow with light blue horizontal bands and sometimes red transversal bands.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Pacific ocean, from Andaman Sea and Thailand to Fiji and Tonga, north to south Japan, south to New Caledonia. Lives in all kinds of coral reefs from very shallow waters to 50 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range but a very low resilience to overfishing, given its habitat preferences and breeding behavior. Monitoring is needed.
