Identification
Adults can grow to 40 cm in length. Coloration turquoise-green to blue with head being more grey-olive. Large green blotch between mouth and eyes, covering parts of snout and cheeks. Belly and rear of flanks turning dark pink-red.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from India to Palau and Vanuatu, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to New Caledonia. Lives in coral-rich areas of outer channels and seaward reefs, to 18 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range but is heavily fished around Philippines and Indonesia where steep declines have been recorded.
