Identification
Body length of 96 cm, tail length of 84 cm, weight of 20 kg. Largest civet species. Coloration mostly dark olive-brown with more or less distinct black markings on back. Throat and belly yellowish. Tail with faint yellow rings.

Range and habitat
This species is endemic to Sulawesi (central Indonesia) and occurs in the north-west, south-west and central-western parts of the island. Mostly found in primary forests but also grasslands, up to 2600 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is poorly known but it appears to decline especially at low altitudes where forest clearing is more important. Populations fragmented.
