Identification
Adults can reach 19 cm in length. Stocky body with round head. Coloration usually pink with violet eyes and thin lilac-blue line from eye to pectoral fins. Tail fin with conspicuous red tips and red outer edge. Red spot on dorsal fin.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Maldives to Samoa, north to Taiwan and south Japan, south to Great Barrier reef. Lives in well protected inshore reefs, lagoons and bays, from 6 to 50 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range and can be locally abundant. So far, it is facing no threats as collection for the aquarium trade is minimal.
