Identification
The species can reach 9 cm. Round-shaped body. Yellowish-olive head, grey to cream flanks with dark edges on flank scales forming a reticulated pattern. Dark brown band near tail and on gill coverts reaching dark edge of dorsal fin.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Cocos Keeling islands to Samoa and Line islands, north to south Japan, south to Lord Howe Island. Lives in outer lagoons and seaward reefs, to 50 meters deep.

Status : The species is widespread but could be declining because of coral reef destruction.
