Identification
The species grows to 12 cm in length. Coloration mostly white with rows of dark spots on flanks. Dark-edged yellow vertical band on face. Dirty yellow dorsal fin, upper back, tail fin with broad black edge separating it from white flanks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the central Pacific Ocean, around Marquesas islands and Line Islands (Kiritimati). Subspecies endemic to Marquesas Islands. Lives in rocky and sandy bottom areas, from 20 to 80 meters deep.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a very small range but seems to suffer from no threats. Marquesas Island population is the only one caught for trade.
