Identification
The species grows to 13 cm in length. Fairly long snout. Face and forward parts of flanks cream-yellow with vertical black face band. Rest of flanks dark ashy-black with poorly defined curved bluish lines on flanks. Clear tail fin.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Indian Ocean, from Kenyan coasts to South Africa, east to Madagascar and Mauritius. Lives in rocky reefs with some coral growth, from 10 to 55 meters deep.

Status : The species doesn’t fully depend on corals. It doesn’t have a large range but isn’t targeted by fisheries or for the trade.
