Identification
The species can reach 60 cm in length. Gently sloping forehead, large head, big dark yellow to brown eyes. Body deep and laterally compressed. Fairly short whitish tips to dorsal and anal fins, yellow rays on anal fin. Coloration silvery.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo Pacific area, from East Africa to Sri Lanka and Gulf of Thailand, north to south Japan, south to Australia. Lives in continental shelf, near rocky and coral reefs, from 20 to 140 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range and is locally used for human consumption. So far, the impact of fisheries doesn’t seem to be a threat.
