Identification
Large species growing to 90 cm for a weight up to 8,1 kg. Long oval-shaped body with humped (almost bulbous) forehead and small mouth. Coloration entirely silvery. Fins short and entirely yellow with no dark edges or spots.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from the Persian Gulf to south Oman coasts, west India, Sri Lanka, then in Gulf of Thailand and in south China. Mostly found in shallow coastal waters.

Status : The species has a very patchy range but remains locally common. It is targeted by fisheries on a local level only. Monitoring of populations is needed.
