Identification
Adults can grow to 60 cm in length for a weight of 1,5 kg. Elongated oval-shaped body with long, gently sloping forehead. Very long falcate fins with dark red-brown tips. Coloration silvery with three medium-sized black dots on lateral line.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and East Africa to Line Islands, north to south Japan, south to Lord Howe and Rapa Islands. Lives in lagoons and seaward reefs, often in surge zones and along sandy beeches.

Status : The species is very common in suitable habitat within its range. Targeted by fisheries and may suffer from overfishing on local scale.
