Identification
Adults can grow to 1,60 m in length for a weight up to 59 kg. Elongated body and large mouth. Caudal fin elongated. Coloration silvery blue-green, lighter on belly, brown band from eye to back. Fins dusky except from white pelvic fins.

Range and habitat
Western Atlantic Ocean from north USA to Argentina, patchily in eastern Atlantic. Indo-Pacific from East Africa to California, south to Peruvian coasts. Mostly found in oceanic waters, generally far from coasts, to 250 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range and is locally abundant. It is regularly caught by artisanal fisheries and this is not viewed as a threat.
