Identification
Adults can grow to 60 cm for a weight of 510 g. Very slender elliptical body, small head, large mouth and big eyes. Coloration silvery blue on upper body, whitish below. 5 to 8 small black spots on upper side of flanks. Black top of dorsal fin.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and South Africa to Marquesas Islands, north to south Japan, south to north Australia. Lives in coastal areas often near water surface but can go down to 50 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range and is still locally common. It is being targeted by fisheries and sometimes used as baitfish.
