Identification
The species grows to 17 cm in length. Easily identifiable. Brown head with grey elongated snout. Two broad vertical brown bands, edged with black on white flanks. White-edged black round spot on dorsal fin. Caudal fin yellow and white.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from central and south Japan to South China Sea, Taiwan and Philippines. Lives in deep rocky reefs, from 50 to 250 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a fairly small range but the fact that it occurs in deep waters makes it less likely to be threatened by habitat loss and overcollection.
