Identification
Adults can grow to a total length of 2 m for a disk width of 1,65 m. Large triangular wing-like fins, long thin tail. Snout with only little notch. Uniform dark brown to grey-brown color, white belly, grey pectoral fins, black tail with white base.

Range and habitat
The species lives in the Indo-Pacific area, from Oman east to Philippines, south to Indonesia, north to south Japan. Lives in bays, estuaries and coral reefs, on sandy and muddy bottom, to 30 m.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is threatened by overexploitation by local fisheries, especially in eastern Asia where these are often unregulated.
