Identification
Large anthias species reaching up to 21 cm. Fairly deep body, long falcate caudal fin. Flanks with numerous orange dots forming uneven rows and large blue to white-edged longitudinal red band in middle flanks. Blue-violet cheek stripes.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and East Africa to Tonga, south to Great Barrier reef, north to South Japan. Lives in seaward reefs, often near caves, from 20 to 150 meters deep.
