Identification
The species can reach 46 cm.. Flank whitish with black dots on every scales. Fins and back of flanks dark olive-grey. Face dark blue, first half of body with two vertical bright yellow crescent-shaped bands. Dorsal and caudal fin nearly white.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the eastern Pacific Ocean, from Gulf of California and Cortez Sea to Mexico, then south to Peruvian coasts. Lives in rocky reefs and adjacent sandy areas, from 6 to 50 meters deep.
