Identification
The species grows to 50 cm long. Body coloration grey-blue to purple-blue with rows of black dashes on forehead. Rough rectangle-shaped yellow blotch on back half of flanks (not reaching dorsal fin), tail fin yellowish with indistinct markings.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the western Indian Ocean, from the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman and Red Sea to southern east Africa. Entered the Mediterranean Sea. Lives in silty reef and coral reef areas, from 4 to 50 meters deep.

Status : The species is common and widespread throughout its range. It seems to be facing no threats at this time.
