Identification
The species grows to 60 cm in length. Brown-beige body, bluish-grey on head, white belly. Dusky grey fins with more or less distinct dusky orange spots. Flanks covered with orange-yellow spots becoming orange wavy lines on cheeks.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and South Africa to Papua New Guinea, north to south Japan, south to Australia. Lives in coastal reefs, channels, lagoons and seagrass areas, to 25 meters deep.

Status : The species status has yet to be assessed but it has a fairly large range. It is hardly ever collected for trade but often caught by fisheries.
