Identification
The species can reach a total length of 95 cm. Long snout, mouth below, closer to eyes than snout. Small triangular fins with blunt tip. Coloration grey brown to light brown with transversal brown bands and lots of blue-white dots.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from India and Maldives to Indonesia and New Guinea, north to Japan. Lives in inshore and coastal shallow coral reefs, to 50 meters deep.

Status : The species is more and more threatened because of fishing pressure, as bycatch and direct target by unsustainable and unmanaged fisheries.
