Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
The species can reach 26 cm in length. Flanks golden yellow with horizontal row of dark dots. Broad black areas on dorsal and anal fins. Fins yellow, filament-like extension on dorsal fin. Blue forehead merging into black cheek spot.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Maldives to Tuamoto islands, north to south Japan, south to Great Barrier reef. Lives in coral-rich areas of protected lagoons and seaward reefs, to 50 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a large range and is globally uncommon. It doesn’t seem to be affected by the collection for the trade at this time.
