Identification
Adults can reach up to 30 cm in length. Yellow face, dusky beige-white body with large white-edged black saddle. Blue wavy lines on belly. Orange areas on edges of dorsal fin and caudal peduncle. Dorsal fin with filament-like extension.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Sri Lanka and Cocos Keeling Islands to Marquesas islands and Hawaii, north to south Japan. Lives in coral reefs habitats in lagoons and outer reefs, to 30 meters deep.
