Identification
Adults reach 43 cm for a weight of 290 g. Bright light green plumage, blue-violet wings with bright red flight feathers, round green crest. Red eyering and black lores. Subspecies with only one white patch above lores, none below.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found from Senegal and Gambia to Liberia. Species occurs in west Africa, from Senegal to Cameroon and Angola, east to DR Congo. Lives in old gallery forests, near cultivation edges and watercourses, to 1385 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species is common and even locally abundant. Trapping for the trade and habitat loss are possible threats in need of better monitoring.
