Identification
The species grow up to 17 cm in length for a weight of 28 g. Unmistakable. Bright pink heavy conical bill with white tip, pink legs. Black head with white cheeks. Grey breast and wings, black tail. Light mauve-pink belly.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Java, Bali, Kangean and Bawean islands in Indonesia. Introduced successfully nearly worldwide and considered a pest. Lives in open grasslands and woodlands, cultivated areas, to 1500 m.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has been introduced in a few countries worldwide. On Java, it is declining dramatically because of habitat loss and relentless capture for the trade.
