Identification
Adults can grow to 56 cm in length for a weight of 455 grams. Black bill, broad blue base. Blue eye-ring. Plumage black, white on cheeks, orange-yellow on breast with a thin white collar and broad red breast-band. Red rump and vent.

Range and habitat
This species is found on Trinidad and South America from East Venezuela and the Guianas to east Amazonian Brazil. Introduced on Grenada. Lives in forested lowlands, riverine forests and swamp forests.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : This subspecies is still locally common but declining in most of its range, mostly because of intense deforestation. Locally vulnerable to hunting.
