Identification
The species grows to 31 cm in length for a weight of 135 g. Black mask, white supercilium, yellow eyes. Plumage light brown, more rufous on back. Flanks and vent yellow-beige, belly and throat white. Black and beige ring on neck.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia, from Nepal and north-east India to eastern China, south to central Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Hainan. Lives in primary and secondary evergreen forests, scrub, up to 1800 m.

Status : The species is widespread and locally common. It occurs in many protected areas throughout its range. Locally vulnerable to trapping and habitat loss.
