Identification
The species reaches 48 cm in length for a weight of 300 g. Long grey tail, black bare face, black bill. Wings, back and tail pale grey. Breast and neck dirty white. Subspecies with green patch on breast and pale pink-brown belly.
Range and habitat
Subspecies found from Uganda and DR Congo to Tanzania, Zambia and Malawi. Species also occurs in the Ethiopian rift valley. Lives in open woodlands, acacia thornbush, cultivated areas, from 500 to 2200 m.

Status : The species is considered to be safe. Locally (in Malawi in particular), it can be threatened by habitat destruction.
