Identification
Adults can grow to 34 cm in length. Short tail with no adornments. Coloration mostly brown, richer (with orangish tinge) on breast and sides of head. Throat purple-violet. Turquoise belly, wings violet-blue. Crown blue to blue-green.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia from east Nepal and north-central China to peninsular Thailand, south Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia. Lives in light woodlands, scrubs, plantations and field edges, to 2900 m.

Status : The species is widespread and common and has benefited from human activities. Many birds end up killed by cars as they often scavenge near roads.
