Identification
Adults can reach 36 cm for a weight of 330 g. Unmistakable. Plumage mostly grey, lighter on breast and belly, slight green and violet iridescence on lower neck. Light grey-blue head. Neck collar consisting of black feathers with cream tips.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia from the Himalayas to south-central China, Myanmar and north Thailand. Isolated population in Taiwan. Lives in mixed mountain forests, from 1200 to 3000 m, rarely to 150 m.
