Identification
The species grows to 25 cm for a weight of 217 g. Plumage black with strong blue to violet iridescence and white tips to neck feathers. White wing patch and rump, yellow vent. Orange bill and bright yellow skin around eyes and on chin.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in most of New Guinea (except high mountain areas) and nearby islands such as Aru, Waigeo, Batanta and Salawati. Lives in most types of forests, forest edges and savannas, to 1800 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has a fairly large range. It remains quite common, at least locally but is caught regularly for the pet trade. Species needs monitoring.
