Identification
Adults can reach a length of 48 cm for a weight of 650 g. Small black bill, plumage mostly ashy grey and wings green with metallic sheen. Subspecies with pinkish wash on belly and chestnut patch on nape. Wings brighter green.

Range and habitat
Subspecies found on Sulawesi, Banggai, Togian and Sula islands. Species found from south India and south China to Indonesia and Philippines. Lives in forests, open woodlands, gardens, mangroves, to 1300 meters.

Status : The species has a huge range and is very adaptable but has been declining because of habitat loss and hunting, particularly in Philippines and Indonesia.
