Identification
The species can reach up to 1.5 meters in length. Head distinct from body, blunt snout. No visible hood marks. Two color phases known, yellow-beige in Thailand and entirely shiny black elsewhere with clear throat markings in Philippines.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in South-East Asia, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and South Thailand, Sumatra, Borneo, Palawan and Calamian Islands. Lives in tropical forests, plantations, gardens and urban areas, to 1500 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has adapted well to live in plantations, including palm oil plantations. In Palawan and Calamian islands, it is heavily harvested and killed.
