Identification
Adults can reach a body length of 42 cm. Elongated, slightly cylindrical body with a triangular-shaped head. Rounded caudal fin. Coloration green to brown-green with mottling and spotting all over flanks. Saddle-like markings on back.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in Northern Pacific Ocean from the Sea of Okhotsk and north Japan to the shores of British Columbia in Canada. Mostly found in shallow rocky areas, down to 200 meters deep.

Status : The species is occasionally caught by fishermen but seems to remain common over its range. Its true status has yet to be assessed.
