Identification
The species can grow to 35 cm in length. Body dorsally flattened with a huge mouth with thick lips. Barbels are short. Coloration is dark brown with more or less defined dark marbling and blotches on back. Tail peduncle and fin are very dark.

Range and habitat
The species is found in South America and occurs in the Sipaliwini river basin in Suriname. Lives in pools and backwater of rapids and fast flowing forest streams.

Status : The species’ status hasn’t been assessed so far. It seems to remain common but water pollution and hydroelectric projects could be great threats.
