Notes : No subspecies known. C. flavicauda is a synonym.
Identification
Small angelfish species, reaching 8.4 cm in length. Tail fin mostly transparent white with yellow margins. Two colorations known, either rusty orange with more or less intense violet flanks or completely violet with brownish face.
Range and habitat
This species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from the Gulf of Aden and South Africa to Tuamoto Islands, Hawaii, north to Ogasawara Islands, south to Australia. Lives in coral reefs, over rubble bottom and reef slopes, from 10 to 95 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range where it is locally common. It isn’t affected by the collection for aquarium trade at this point.
