Identification
Adults can grow to 17 cm in length for a weight of 48 g. Plumage globally green and yellow. Males have red flanks and forecheeks, blue cheeks. Females have yellow cheeks. Subspecies with more red and more yellow on crown.

Range and habitat
The subspecies is found in west Papuan islands and north-west Papua New Guinea. Species occurs from Sulawesi to Bismarck Archipelago. Lives in open forests, mangroves, woodlands and plantations, to 1400 m.

Status : This species was once caught in big numbers for the trade but this trend has stopped. It is locally common to abundant and quite adaptable.
