Identification
Adults can grow to a wingspan of 8 cm. Broad wings, the upperside being orange with black tips and white markings. The underside is mottled brown, looking like a dead leaf. Wings have peculiar shape with long tail-like appendages.

Range and habitat
The species is found in Central America, from Mexico to Panama and Colombia, east to Guianas and Brazil, south to Bolivia. Subspecies found from Central America to Bolivia. Lives in primary and deciduous forests, cloud forests, to 1500 m.
