Identification
The species reaches 60 cm in length for a weight of 900 g. Plumage mostly dusky black, except from dull creamy yellow undertail with more or less black markings. Yellow cheek patches, males have pink eyering, female have black eyering

Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs in the northern parts of the species range, to east Victoria. Species found in most of eastern Australia, Tasmania and nearby islands. Lives in coastal woodlands, forests and pine plantations.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has a relatively wide distribution and is adaptable. Its long term survival depends mostly on the availability of suitable nesting sites.
