Identification
The species can grow to 15 cm in length. Unmistakable. First half of body is bright golden yellow with black eyes and dark blue-violet head band running from eyes to forehead. Back half of body dark blue-violet, tail fin bright yellow.
Range and habitat
This species is found in the Indo-Pacific area, from East Africa to Micronesia and Samoa, north to south Japan, south to New Caledonia. Lives in lagoons, protected reef slopes, around both coral and rubble, to 25 m.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a very large range. Despite localized habitat loss and collection for trade, it doesn’t seem to be declining and remains safe.
