Identification
This species can reach a total length of about 40 to 50 cm, its tail making for two-thirds of total length. Body beige to orange with mottling and faint dark saddles on back. Thick white line from lips to flanks, rest of head dark brown to black.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in Australasia, in southern New Guinea (including the Indonesian province of Irian Jaya) and northern Australia. Lives in woodlands, forests, gardens and swamps in lowlands mostly.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species seems to remain safe so far. It can tolerate living in a broad range of habitat and occurs in at least three protected areas within its range.
