Identification
The species grows to 51 cm in body length. Short pencil-like legs, shorter nose than other mousedeers. Males have distinct elongated canines. Brown, darker on shoulders, rows of white spots forming single line on shoulders.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in southern Asia and is endemic to Sri Lanka, being found in most of the northern and central parts of the island. Lives in areas with dry deciduous vegetation, including plantations and gardens.

CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is widespread and adaptable. It remains common despite intense hunting pressure. Its taxonomic and conservation status need studies.
