Identification
Adults can reach a body length of 43 cm for a wingspan of 100 cm and a weight of 325 g. Bill quite weak and small, white eyes. Brown head with white throat (and black throat stripe). Rufous brown plumage with white streaks on lower breast.

Range and habitat
The species lives in south Asia, from south-east Iran and south Pakistan to most of India and Nepal, east to Bangladesh and to central Myanmar. Lives in dry woodlands, often near water, sometimes plantations, up to 2000 m.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has a large range and has locally benefited from deforestation (in India). No threats are known to its survival at this time.
