Identification
Adults can grow to 27 cm in length, males being bigger. Triangular head with black band on sides. Brown back with dark dots, light cream white belly. Females have two clear bands on side, males have bright red flanks and lip scales.
Range and habitat
This species is endemic to Hispaniola, occurring on Haiti and Dominican Republic in scattered localities throughout the island. Lives in relatively dry forests, woodlands, plantations. Also near cities.

Status : The species is widespread and locally common. It can adapt to man-made habitats and seems to suffer from no known threats at this time.
