Identification
Large triggerfish reaching up to 50 cm in length. Scales on flanks are very rough and look almost keeled. Long and pointed dorsal and anal fins. Coloration from clear to very dark grey with white blotches, fading with age. Dark eyes.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Indian Ocean, then in both east and west sides of Pacific and Atlantic oceans, in tropical and subtropical waters. Lives mostly in offshore waters, down to at least 100 meters deep.

Status : The species has a huge range and can be locally abundant. It isn’t known to be facing any threats at this time.
