Identification
Adults can reach about 16 cm in length. Males develop tubercles on lips and have brighter coloration. Coloration uniformly grey with broad dark band on flanks and bluish stripe on back. Males have reddish cheeks and red tinge on fins.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to Taiwan, being found from the western and central mountain rainges to Kaoping river in the south of the island. Lives in slow flowing pools in upland clear coolwater streams, from 500 to 1200 m.

Status : The species’ status has yet to be assessed. Its water quality requirements make it highly vulnerable to any habitat alteration.
