Identification
Adults can reach a body length of 41 cm and a weight of 6.4 kg Two color morphs are known: black or light beige, both with white hairs around face. This subspecies has less hairs than carpenteri. Pale morph is much clearer.

Range and habitat
This subspecies is found in south Myanmar and south-west Thailand. Species also occurs in north Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia and north Sumatra. Lives in primary humid evergreen forest, peat swamp forest, to 1200 m.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix I
Status : The species is endangered by deforestation and forest fires. Also caught for the trade and hunted. This subspecies is one of the most threatened.
