Notes : No subspecies known.
Identification
ults can grow to 1 meter in length. Short and thick body with short tail and highly keeled scales (especially on neck and first half of body). Head greyish, body color sandy-beige to beige-brown with large fused brown blotches on back.
Range and habitat
This subspecies is endemic to Sri Lanka. The species occurs from Pakistan to India and Nepal. Lives in open lands, agricultural land, unused lands with sandy soil.

Status : The species used to be common in the wild but is now declining alarmingly because of overcollection for the trade.
