Identification
The species grows up to 70 cm in length. Body covered with transversal rows of heavily armored plates. Coloration dull sandy-beige to brown, sometimes with dark spots on scales. Bluish skin fold on lower flanks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in subsaharan Africa, from Togo to Cameroon, eastwards to Central African Republic and Sudan, south to South Africa. Lives in dry rocky areas, including deserts.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species has a huge range and seems to remain common despite collection for the pet trade that still occurs locally.
